Click here: Date: 6th February 2008 Chair: Professor Sevket Pamuk Time: 18.00- 20.00 Venue: Room D502, Clement House, Aldwych, The London School of Economics Speakers include: Professor Sami Zubaida Emeritus Professor of Politics and Sociology at Birkbeck College, University of London. Prof. Zubaida’s research interests include Middle East Politics, Religion, Law and Nationalism. Among his many published books, are: Islam, the people and the State: Political ideas and movements in the Middle East, (1993); A taste of thyme: Culinary cultures of the Middle East' (2000) and Law and power in the Islamic world (2005). Dr. Can Dundar Born in 1961 in Ankara, Dr. Dundar graduated from the Media Department of the Ankara University and was awarded his doctorate in 1996 by the Middle East Technical University. He has been working as a journalist since 1979 and is currently a columnist for Milliyet (Turkish-language newspaper). Dr. Dundar also has a TV programme on the Turkish channel NTV. He also has written and produced several books and documentaries. Dr. Welat Zeydanlioglu Dr. Zeydanlioglu completed his PhD in Cultural Studies at Anglia Ruskin in August 2007, which was entitled Kemalism’s Others: The Reproduction of Orientalism in Turkey. He is a founding member of the Research Unit for Intercultural and Transcultural Studies (RUITS) at the same university. His main research interests and publications are in the area of postcolonial theory, politics of nation-building and modern Turkish and Kurdish history. This event is free and open to the public.
