General
Information
If you are new to London you will
find that the city is divided into travel zones which will dictate the cost of your
journey by underground (tube), rail or bus.
Whilst you are looking for
accommodation it is likely that you will have to view several properties in different
areas in one day. The best way to keep travel costs down is to buy a one day travel card,
or better yet buy a standard Adult
Oyster Card (until you are able to apply for a
Student Oyster Card) from any tube station or location where you see
the Oyster Card logo.
These allow you unlimited journeys by tube, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), bus and
some National Rail services within Greater London throughout your selected zones after 9.30am
Mondays - Fridays, all day Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Prices for paper tickets 2008 are:
One day travel card
(off peak)
Zones 1 and 2 £5.30
Zones 1 - 4 £5.90
All Zones (1-6) £7.00
The cheapest way to travel may be to purchase a weekly or monthly travel pass.
You can put this monthly travel pass on
Oyster,
a very popular travel smartcard designed for London commuters. Prices for
such travel passes are as follows:

The LSE, in Zone 1, is well served by the tube, many bus routes and
National Rail (see below for details). It is very unlikely
that you will find accommodation within walking distance of the School. The majority of
students live in Zones 2 and 3, approximately 30 minutes from the School, or, in Zones 4
and 5, which means up to one hours travel to the School.
Students are entitled to a Student Discount Card,
which is available
online once you have
registered. The card offers fare deals which are approximately 30%
cheaper than those listed above:
