Finding a place to live

Most LSE students live in privately rented housing and commute to the School every day. Arranging this type of accommodation is generally not possible before you arrive as you should always inspect a property to ensure it's suitability and as landlords rarely make commitments to unseen tenants. This means that in order to find somewhere to live, you should come to London before the beginning of the academic session. We would advise you to allow a minimum of two weeks to search for accommodation (students with children should allow longer).

August/ September Temporary Accommodation Booking
From the middle of August until the end of September a number of places are reserved in LSE residences:

In Bankside, singles for the price of £24.00 per night (inc full English breakfast) for LSE students (£26.50 per night for non-LSE students).

In High Holborn, the nearest hall to the LSE, for the price of £23.50 per night for a single room for LSE students (£26.00 per night for non-LSE students, a student ID is required)

Rosebery, Carr-Saunders and Passfield Halls are about 20 minutes walking distance from the LSE, for the price of £19.50 per night for a single room for LSE students (£22.00 per night for non-LSE students).

To book yourself a place send a completed copy of the Bankside House booking form , High Holborn booking form or the Rosebery/Carr-Saunders/Passfield booking form along with the necessary deposit to the preferred hall directly. To be sure of a place you must confirm your booking with the residence before arrival.

This is the way in which most students find their housing each year as the Halls provide not only a cheap place to stay whilst looking for private accommodation, but also an opportunity to meet other students with whom to share.

October Temporary Accommodation
If you're not able to get to London early, you may wish to know that from the end of September we have negotiated deals for temporary accommodation with a number of Central London hotels. To reserve a space you should contact the hotels directly. Remember to mention the 'LSE Offer'. Click here for Hotels' details.

Comforting thoughts...

Please do not be daunted by the amount of information published here. This website was designed primarily to help students who have never looked for, or lived in, private sector accommodation before and whilst it may seem to be a lot to take in, most of it is just common sense.

Every year two thirds of the entire student population of London live in the private sector and most enjoy the experience and the independence immensely. You may well find that after the initial period of uncertainty, hall accommodation would not have been suitable for you anyway. If not you can always keep yourself active on the Accommodation Office waiting list (see below) which runs throughout the academic year.
