Millennium:
Journal of International Studies
Millennium
has a world-wide circulation and is not only one of the pre-eminent British
journals in the field of International Relations, but also enjoys wide
recognition abroad. One of the few academic journals edited and published
completely by postgraduate students, it maintains a high professional
standard and a reputation for publishing innovative work by both young
scholars as well as by established figures in the field. Now in its thirty-fourth
year, Millennium is published tri-yearly (Summer, Winter, and the
following Spring for the Special Issue).
Traditionally, Millennium
holds a conference on an annual basis. The conference proceedings are
published as the year's Special Issue. The theme of the Special Issue
of Volume 34 (34.3) will be 'Between Fear and Wonder: International Politics,
Representation and 'the Sublime'. Among the topics on which previous Special
Issues have focused are: Ethics and International Relations (1998),
Gender and International Relations (1998), Territoriality, Identity,
and Movement in International Relations (1999), Religion and International
Relations (2000), Images and Narratives in World Politics (2001),
Pragmatism in IR Theory (2002), IR and the Digital Age (2003),
and Facets of Power in International Relations (2004).
Every year, Millennium
hosts the Northedge Essay Competition, now in its 21st year. This
competition furthers a Millennium tradition of publishing well-argued
student work in a journal open to new issues and innovative approaches
to International Relations. The Northedge Essay Competition is
open to any student who is currently pursuing or has recently completed
a degree in International Relations or a related field and is named after
Professor F S Northedge, the founder of the Journal.
Working with Millennium
is an ideal way for students who are preparing for examinations, or who
are looking for a way to sharpen critical skills, gain organisational
experience, or keep up-to-date with the latest research in International
Relations. Our weekly Editorial Board meetings, every Thursday from 1-2pm
in room D703, are always open to new members and involve students in lively
discussion and debate.
