Department of International Relations

International Trade Policy Unit

The International Trade Policy Unit (ITPU) was established in 1999 in order to promote an informed debate on international trade policy and trade-related policy issues. The Centre provides a focal point for research to underpin teaching and provides students with opportunities to follow developments in policy-related research in trade policy and get involved in debate on current issues in international trade. It brings together academic staff in the International Relations and other departments in LSE with a range of outside experts and practitioners in the field of trade policy. Its activities include:

(a) research in areas such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO), multilateral and regional/preferential trade and investment issues, the process of trade policy making in developing and developed countries;

(b) organising workshops and conferences on trade and trade-related topics that bring together academics, researchers and practitioners from the public and private sector, international organisation and NGOs;

(c) short courses and capacity building courses for practitioners in trade policy and negotiations.

For full details of these activities and forthcoming events see the International Trade Policy Unit website
